about the connection

The central goal of the Detroit Community Data Connection (DCDC) is to increase the quantity,
quality, awareness of, and access to neighborhood level data and information for community
planning, analysis and problem solving. A more efficient system of data access will increase
the effectiveness of Detroit area nonprofit organizations, local government units, and business
development units that serve, support, and empower their communities.
The DCDC is a project of the Detroit Data Partnership (DDP). The current version of the DCDC,
managed by City Connect Detroit, is Phase One of the
project. This system contains data and information specifically related to children and youth
in the City of Detroit.
Phase One engages a select group of data providers and youth serving organizations to:
- Coordinate data related to Detroit’s children and youth;
- Develop an online system allowing users to view, layer, save and download data and maps from a variety of data sources; and,
- Test the use of these data by community groups.
This pilot project demonstrates the potential of the DCDC through the development of shared child,
youth and family related data. These data are delivered over the web to local community groups in
the form of tables, charts, and maps.
Following the completion of Phase One, the DCDC will broaden the scope of the project beyond child
and youth data, and actively market the site to a broad range of service providers, government,
and other local decision makers.
